Gallery: 'Sound Mirrors' installation at King Edward Park, Hawera, NZ
Global Stainless Artworks donated two bronze painted 'Sound Mirrors' or whisper dishes to the King Edward Park in Hawera, NZ. They are installed either side of the small lake in the park, and are placed 55 metres apart. The 'Sound Mirrors' were used during World War I, where they were placed on the north and south-east coasts of England and were used to detect enemy aircraft as they approached the coast. Sometimes known as 'listening ears', or 'parabolic dishes', the technology was a forerunner of radar.
